Thomas Buckley: Technology Is A Tool

Thomas Buckley is a creative technologist, artist, and leading voice in XR, recently speaking at SXSW in Austin Texas via the British Council. In this keynote, he challenges the morality of current technologies – tools that often divide, exclude, and erode empathy. Rather than reject them, Thomas argues for deeper, critical engagement, and calls for more diverse voices shaping digital futures where everyone can see themselves – and their stories – reflected. Rephrasing technology as a tool, and reclaiming it as a way for people to make the world a better place.

Workshops

Attendees are able to select two workshops on a first come, first serve basis. Workshop selection forms will be sent to registered attendees closer to the conference date. Check out our range of amazing workshops below!

Thomas Buckley: The Craft of Technology

In this 45-minute workshop, we’ll explore how to make video content that feels personal, expressive, and artfully made—without relying on stock footage. Using accessible tools like CapCut and the Adobe Suite, we’ll play with layering, timing, sound, and texture to create videos that feel more like handmade collages or art pieces. We will explore how to let creativity show in each stage of building video content. Find out more about Thomas and his work here!

Amy Morvell: Choreography, Confidence & Collaboration

Join Amy Morvell from Morvell Dance to explore themes, choreographic tasks, and creative techniques suitable for performance with your students. Learn how to incorporate LED screen work, lighting and costume design, and build confidence in students who may be less experienced in performance. Collaborate, share ideas, and refine your skills in leadership for an unforgettable performance. Find out more about Amy and her work here!

Katie Dale-Everett Dance: Engaging Young People Through Motion Capture and Dance Technology

Join Katie Dale-Everett and Ruby Gadsby for an interactive 45-minute workshop exploring the fundamentals of motion capture technology and its innovative use in arts education. Discover how Katie Dale-Everett Dance is leveraging mocap to engage young people—particularly those who don’t typically participate in the arts—through immersive, tech-driven experiences.

Participants will gain insight into how motion capture suits and software operate, observe how physical movement can dynamically shape virtual environments, and take part in a hands-on creative task inspired by the company’s work. Perfect for educators, technologists, and creative practitioners interested in the intersection of digital tools and youth engagement.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of dance experience and can be adapted for different needs. Find out more about Katie and her work here!

*Motion capture uses magnets and components that emit radio waves which could affect nearby electronics. If you have a pacemaker, or other implanted medical devices please speak to a doctor if you have any concerns about being in a room with magnets/radio waves.
